The Arts

Welcome to the Arts Faculty at Durham Gilesgate Sports College & Sixth Form Centre. We are a thriving and expanding Faculty at the heart of the school, comprising of four departments; Visual Arts, Media Studies, Performing Arts and Music. All of the teaching staff are specialists in their area, and teach across the 11-19 age range, with some also teaching in the feeder primary schools, partner comprehensive schools and in areas of adult education. 

The Faculty prides itself on its commitment and passion for the Arts, as both part of education and the wider community.  This is evident in its comprehensive programme of extra-curricular experiences for students of all ages and abilities and the opportunities they are presented with to work with other organisations.  These include inspirational trips and visits to theatres, art galleries, newspaper offices and other places of interest; working with partnership companies such as design:point & NB group, as well as participating in cross faculty projects supported by our strong links with outside agencies, including Cultural Hubs, Beamish and Dance City.

We were recently awarded Artsmark Gold by the Arts Council for our continued commitment to the Arts and also deliver Art Leadership Awards to the young people in our school and community.
