Durham 6th Form Centre Cricket Team vs MCC
17th May 2010
There was a breathless hush around the ground…
The inaugural match of D6FC students against the great MCC club was held at Durham University’s ground on Tuesday 4th May 2010.
This highly prestigious fixture saw our young men take the field against the historic MCC, whose side included Minor County, Durham Premiership and Durham University players.
MCC batted first and scored 226 by about 3.00pm.
At 6.15 D6FC needed two runs to win, with 3 balls left of the final hour’s play and with only one wicket left to fall: all results were possible!
With one ball to spare the runs were scored and D6FC cricketers had won as a result of a 1st class performance where it would be invidious to pick out any one performance; but thanks must go to Mr Leonard for organising the day’s play and Mr Ferguson for umpiring.
The game of high quality cricket was played in a competitive fashion and in an excellent spirit throughout: cricket too was the victor. The Centre hopes for a repeat fixture next year.
