As a Sports College our ambition is to be at the forefront of sporting developments throughout the area. We aim to be a Centre of Excellence and to establish a visible Sports College ethos throughout not only the school but also the local community and the wider School Sports Partnership.
As such our specialist curriculum aims to ensure that positive attitudes to sport and physical education are nurtured through the provision of high quality teaching and learning, a broad, balanced and innovative curriculum, along with an extra curricular programme which encourages students to have a lifelong participation in both sport and physical education. This involvement may be as a performer,
a coach, a leader, an administrator or an officials.
Our provision of high quality academic, accredited, competitive and recreational opportunities nurtures and develops the strengths of all, providing a fully inclusive programme and personalised pathway.
As part of the school's curriculum, the aim for sport is to provide a physically rich curriculum that embracing innovative and challenging methodologies, including enhanced and imaginative use of technology and brain based approaches to teaching and learning.
In collaboration with our partners we aim to improve the standards of teaching and learning in PE and play a lead role in sporting strategies throughout the county and take the lead in providing vocational learning in sport and leisure.
We are very much involved in community projects, family learning and extended services. Durham Gilesgate Sports Collegee & Sixth Form Centre are delivering a strategic plan, through the Sports College ethos, which will equip our learners, partners and local community to embrace and succeed in the ever changing world of the 21st Century.
