key stage 4...
We endeavour to provide each child with a curriculum which meets their needs.
Our key stage four curriculum follows the English Baccalaureate. Students follow GCSE courses in:
English
Maths
Science – either a combination of 3 single award sciences or 21st Century and additional applied (worth 2 GCSEs)
A Humanities subject – a choice between History and Geography
A modern foreign language – a choice between French or Spanish
More details about these courses can be viewed in our annual Options booklet.
To supplement this very academic curriculum students also study RE, ICT and PE each worth a qualification. Students are left with one option choice, which this year includes Art, Business or Music.
A separate pathway has run for a number of years at DGSC. This follows a more vocational route in partnership with New College Durham. A small cohort of students can choose between mechanics, child care, catering, construction, painting and decorating and hair and beauty. They attend college one day a week and when at school follow GCSE courses in English, Maths, Science, Art, ICT and PE. They also work with our community association to achieve the nationally recognised Princes Trust award.
