welcome... to durham gilesgate sports college
I very much welcome this opportunity to introduce you to our school.
I hope to give you a flavour of what Durham Gilesgate Sports College and Sixth Form Centre stands for.
Our school is an 11-18 Specialist Sports College, housed mainly on two campuses in Durham and Durham City.
We have a strong ethos based on care, challenge, aspiration and success.
Our students are individual people and we celebrate a full range of diverse achievements from successfully completed community projects to elite sportsmen and women, from learning and succeeding at 11 years old to Oxbridge University entrance at 18.
Our exam results show year on year improvement. In 2010, the number of students gaining 5 A*-C grades was 10% above the national average and we are one of the most successful schools in the country at adding value.
In addition to these many successes, our highest priority will always be to maintain a safe and secure environment for our students. Ofsted praised the quality of care and support we provide.
We are strongly anti-bullying and we use new technology to track students from lesson to lesson so that we always know where they are during the school day.
We realise our school will only continue to be successful if there is a strong partnership between home and school with each student's interest at the heart of everything we do.
By working in partnership we aim to create a climate for learning that is aspirational and one that comforts, inspires and challenges our young people to pursue their dreams and achieve their ambitions.
